Surat Al Hujurat

Surah Hujurat talks about how worthy you have to be to become a true believer of Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.

After you read this, we need to acknowledge the meaning of this ayah. The first sentence says, “And if two factions among the believers should fight, then make settlement between the two”. What do we learn from this? We learn that, if 2 groups (for example) are to fight, they should first make a settlement between each other. Breaking this down, we should make a treaty and act upon peace with the other. The following says, “But if one of them oppresses the other, then fight against the one that oppresses until it returns to the ordinance of Allah”. If someone does not agree with this treaty then all the believers would be in a group, that supports the treaty, and should fight so that person can agree with this treaty. They should keep fighting until it returns back to the ordinance of Allah. And lastly, it says, “And if it returns, then make settlement between them in justice and act justly. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.” Now that we have fought them, they are now forced to agree with the treaty, back to justice. And Allah loves those who act fairly (which is another word for justly).

Ayah 10 is, “إِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ إِخْوَةٌ فَأَصْلِحُوا بَيْنَ أَخَوَيْكُمْ ۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ - 49:10”. It means, “The believers are but brothers,” This means, all of our friends and family, who are Muslim and male, are our brothers; just like how the family members like sisters, daughters & cousins are our sisters. Then it says, “so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that you may receive mercy.” They are our brothers; we shouldn’t fight them. We should show peace instead of hate. And we should only fear ALLAH, indeed Allah is who we shall get mercy from, in the Day of judgment, the grave and anywhere else.

Ayah 11 is long, “يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا يَسْخَرْ قَوْمٌ مِّن قَوْمٍ عَسَىٰ أَن يَكُونُوا خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَلَا نِسَاءٌ مِّن نِّسَاءٍ عَسَىٰ أَن يَكُنَّ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُنَّ ۖ وَلَا تَلْمِزُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ وَلَا تَنَابَزُوا بِالْأَلْقَابِ ۖ بِئْسَ الِاسْمُ الْفُسُوقُ بَعْدَ الْإِيمَانِ ۚ وَمَن لَّمْ يَتُبْ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الظَّالِمُونَ - 49:11” This ayah talks about a lot about how you act, anger and how you should behave/interact with one and another.
