There is a huge difference between what you want for yourself and what Allah wants for you.
Often, a person sees الخير (good) in something specific, while Allah chooses a different path—one that carries the true and lasting good, even if we don’t realize it at first.
When the Companions set out for Badr, they were not intending to fight.
Their goal was to intercept a Quraysh trade caravan led by Abu Sufyan.
They were seeking an easy gain—no الحرب (war), no hardship—just a smooth and simple victory.
Things did not go as planned.
Abu Sufyan managed to escape with the caravan, while Quraysh mobilized an army of 1,000 fighters.
In a single moment, the situation changed:
The Muslims were only 313, facing an army three times their size.
They were not prepared for such a confrontation and felt reluctant.
The Qur’an describes their state:
“And indeed, a group among the believers were unwilling.”
Even after realizing the caravan was gone, some still hoped to avoid battle.
They wished for a situation without conflict.
Allah says:
“And you wished that the unarmed one would be yours.”
But Allah intended something far greater:
As Allah says:
“But Allah intended to establish the truth by His words.”
This was not just a battle—it was the Day of Criterion (Yawm al-Furqan).
If it had only been a caravan:
But the Battle of Badr:
What the Companions wanted was easy and immediate,
but what Allah chose was greater and everlasting.
Good is not always in what we desire—
but in what Allah decrees for us.
When your will conflicts with Allah’s plan, trust that His choice is better.
Submit your heart to Him, because He sees what you cannot and knows what you do not.
There is a great difference between what you want for yourself and what Allah wants for you—so surrender to Allah’s will.
Your Path to a Degree with Purpose
