5 important points concerning the night of Al Qadr

13th May 2020
Laylat Al Qadr

The night of alqadr (decree) is better than a thousand months (i.e. worshipping Allah in that night is better than worshiping him for a thousand months (i.e. 83 years and 4 months).

1. Meaning of Laylat Al Qadr.

The night of Al Qadr (decree)is named that way to represent the fate of people.
“There in (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainment”.

2. The importance of Laylat Al Qadr.

The night of alqadr (decree) is better than a thousand months (i.e. worshipping Allah in that night is better than worshiping him for a thousand months (i.e. 83 years and 4 months).

  • 1 hour in the night of the decree equals 8 years of worship.
  • 1 minute = 50 days.

3. What day is Laylatul Qadr?

There is no specific hadeeth that says that it is on the 27th of Ramadan and it is known that this night moves from year to year; it may be on either the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th or 29th.

A clear mistake is to worship on those nights only and leave the other half; you do not study half of a subject and leave the other half!

4. You MUSTN"T do that.

Don’t waste your time looking at the clock but instead focus on worshipping during these nights as if they were the last nights of your life.

Those who stay after praying Al Fager and try to find out if it was the night or not, please do not do so because if it was, you may lose your strong will to continue: if someone didn't worship during the night and he knew that it was over he would stop. Please continue to do so until the end of the month; after Ramadan ends you can speak about it.

5. What should I do?

If you didn't do anything from the beginning of Ramadan you still have the chance: Ibn Taimeah said, “The point is at the ends not at the beginnings”.

Get a paper and write all your needs and wishes, try to focus on 5 or 6, and keep making Dua with them after Al Magreb, after any Azan, during the last third of the night, and Friday Evening. Try to make Dua with your heart and not with your tongue.

Stop all kinds of wasting your time on your mobile (social media/ games) or TV at least between the time of Al Magreb til Al Fagr. Tidy your room, prepare yourself well, then pray. If you are getting tired read the Quran, do zikr, or do Istegfar.

Our mother A’isha RA asked the Prophet ﷺ, “O Messenger of Allah! if I know which night is Laylatul-Qadr, what should I say during it?” And he ﷺ instructed her to say:
"‎اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عُفُوٌّ كَرِيمٌ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي"
"O Allah, You are Pardoning and Generous. You love to forgive, so forgive me."

May Allah accept us all.
